　　From the feast for Robert Burns，late，on foot;
$ m4 y0 \+ J# w) }7 Z4 i　　They have leaned against graveyard walls，
6 B7 h+ c$ Y3 A2 f3 q$ M/ s　　Have bent double in the glittering frost，
) ^) J' e3 {# a1 E8 o7 B" p9 o　　Their bladders heavy with tea and ginger.
　　Burns， suspended in a drop，is flicked away
　　As they wipe their eyes，and is not offended.
　　What could offend him? Not the squeaking bagpipe
　　Nor the haggis which，when it was sliced，collapsed
　　In a meal of blood and oats
　　Nor the man who read a poem by Scott

　　Nor the principal speaker whose topic，
　　"Burns' View of Crop Rotation，" was intended
+ B# {7 e( }2 s; v% Q2 R1 E　　For farmers， who were not present，
6 M# b3 a' _* U- u6 L/ [7 \- ~, L& G　　Nor his attempt to cover this error， reciting
" |1 ~  j) d& C4 Y/ D( q　　The only Burns poem all evening，
　　"Nine Inch Will Please a Lady，" to thickening silence.
　　They drop their coats in the hall，
　　Mother first to the toilet， then Father，
! ?' j, l" H2 F, o- m8 n& }　　And then stand giggling at the phone，
　　Debating a call to the States， decide no，
　　And the strength to keep laughing breaks
% N% }; t. O! p8 u/ Z　　In a sigh. I hear， as their tired ribs
) ?  p/ o6 {7 o& ?　　Press together， their bedroom door not close
; `* [5 Z+ g' M: c. v  \: m　　And hear also a weeping from both of them
　　That seems not to be pain， and it comforts me.
